A Report on Visit to the Day Care Centre for Sr. Citizens

Community AID & Sponsorship program (CASP) has implemented three Day Care Centre’s in Mumbai for Sr.Citizens with the generous support of Bombay Community Public Trust, Mumbai and A.C.International Child Support, Denmark.

We had visited the CASP Day Care Centre for Sr. Citizens on 21st September 2010 which is at Sai Baba Temple Hall, Near Golphadevi Temple, Worli Koliwada, Mumbai. The representative of this Day Care Centre is Mrs. Shilpa Joshi who is member of CASP. CASP had started this centre 7 years back. There are more than 45 women who are part of this centre & are above 60 years of age. They are coming to this centre since it has started and there are also some women who have joined in later and are coming since last 5 ,4 & 3 years. The women who come to this centre stay in the proximity of the centre. They assemble in the afternoon around 2 pm and disperse by 6 pm daily.

The main objectives of this centre are to maintain the normal health of senior Citizens, to provide Psychological support to senior citizens & to update their general knowledge from time to time. To meet these objectives they carry out the following programs

  • Medical check-up of Sr.Citizen i.e. General Health check-up and special check-up i.e. Blood Pressure, Diabetes and ENT.
  • Daily nutrition programme.
  • Recreational Programme i.e. sports competition, film show, Songs and Bhajans, Celebration of Birthdays, Picnic.
  • Daily Yoga sessions.
  • Exposure Visits and also take them to picnics within Mumbai.
  • The CASP representative reads out newspaper for them daily so as to keep them updated.
  • They also celebrate festive seasons by making projects  during NagPanchmi ,Ganesh Festival , Dassera etc

Though all the women were above 60 yrs of age, they looked very jovial and enthusiastic and had positive approach towards life. They sang various songs and also showed some yoga aasanas which were taught to them.

We students entertained them by singing songs & with some humorous dialogues and made the moment cheerful. We interacted with them and asked about their experience at CASP since they have joined in. All the women seemed very happy and sounded satisfied by being part of CASP Day care Centre.

CASP has started two more day care centre’s in Mumbai apart from the one at Worli. Out of the two, the one is at Fisherman Colony at Mahim and around 38 women are part of this Day Care Centre. And another one is at Indira Gandhi Mahila Vikas Kendra, Marol PipeLine, J. B. Nagar, Andheri and around 35 women are part of this Centre.

CASP should continue doing the good deeds and set up more such Day Care Centre’s across the country and make the lives of Sr. Citizens Colourful.

We are obliged to be part of this CSR activity as we got to see & feel the efforts taken by the CASP unit for bringing smiles on the faces of the Sr. Citizens. It was a great learning experience for us and understood that giving back to the society really gives you more satisfaction than anything else in life.

We look forward to many such CSR activities in future to shape the lives of the underprivileged people.
